  • Description: This 2.5-hour mandatory ethics module addresses the modern, real-life ethical dilemmas RCICs face daily. Through scenario-based learning, this course covers the ethical management of client funds, proper file transfers, avoiding unauthorized practices, managing professional errors, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity under the CICC Code of Professional Conduct.

Learning Objectives:

  • Uphold strict professionalism by applying ethical decision-making frameworks to resolve real-life dilemmas, including managing time management failures, missed deadlines, and application errors. 
  • Demonstrate compliant business management by implementing strict operational protocols for safeguarding client funds, managing client records, and issuing appropriate refunds in compliance with CICC regulations. 
  • Exhibit leadership in practice management by executing proper, ethical procedures for transferring client files to newly retained representatives or referring matters to co-counsel/lawyers. 
  • Counsel clients ethically regarding negative outcomes, advising objectively on next steps such as Judicial Review (JR), appeals, or re-submissions without misleading or intimidating the client. 
  • Maintain professional integrity when managing practice reputation, formulating compliant responses to negative client reviews, and navigating the CICC complaint and disciplinary processes effectively.

Admission Requirement: Registrants must be licensed legal practitioners in good standing (Canada or International).
